HOW DID YOU LEARN ABOUT REBOOT YOUR LIFE?
I watched “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead” … three times! I still cry!
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO DO A REBOOT?
I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis shortly before my 50th birthday. I spent five months on shots that left me feeling sick, without any improvement. I then spent a year with no treatment before I saw the movie. I walked around by holding on to furniture, using a cane and finally found a cute purple walker. I couldn’t drive except very short distances, couldn’t clean our home and couldn’t take care of our 26-year-old paraplegic son. I was convinced my life was over. I finally gave in, watched Joe and his story about his autoimmune disorder. I figured the juicing couldn’t hurt, since MS is also an autoimmune disease. Talk about terrified! I spent the week before the Reboot giving up caffeine (two large iced coffees and four to six diet sodas a day), dairy products, processed foods, pasta (Oh, the pain!), fried foods, sweets and meat.
HOW DID THE REBOOT EXPERIENCE GO FOR YOU?
The first few days were almost a deal-breaker! The headaches, the sleeplessness at night, the sleepiness during the day, the fear… I almost gave up BUT… My husband and children encouraged me to stick with it. Once I started just juicing, I noticed changes within days – not weeks, not months – DAYS! My thinking was much clearer and I began walking around the house without touching the walls. I left my walker within reach for a week or two. I was amazed every time I walked out the door that I was actually walking ON MY OWN. Everyone noticed how much better I looked and the weight began to come off.
DESCRIBE ANY NOTABLE HEALTH OR PHYSICAL IMPROVEMENTS?
We hung my walker in the garage in November! My neurologist was impressed and pleased with the vast improvement in my neurological testing – I walked on my tiptoes, on my heels, up and down the hall; touched my nose with my eyes closed and was able to pass the coordination part of the exam – none of which I had been able to do without almost falling two months before. I can now help in caring for our son and, best of all, in November I made a solo drive from Las Vegas to central California.
WHAT WAS THE TOUGHEST PART ABOUT THE REBOOT?
I thought the toughest part would be missing all of my “favorite” foods but it wasn’t. The toughest part was wanting soda. Oh, and NOT CHEWING!!!
WHAT HABITS HAVE YOU KEPT AND MAINTAINED AS PART OF YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE?
At first I still juiced at least once a day but I began slowly slipping back into old habits. After that, I determined that I simply CANNOT neglect healthy eating or juicing. I will continue to juice at least once or twice a day and stay with mostly raw fruits and vegetables. I will, however, on occasion roast up some garlic, carrots and sweet potatoes and take advantage of things like kale chips!
WHAT IS YOUR LASTING IMPRESSION AND TAKE-AWAY FROM THE REBOOT EXPERIENCE?
I truly believe that without the Reboot and Joe’s and Phil’s stories, I would be in a wheelchair and I would still feel sick. I will have another MRI in May to see what the lesions in my brain are doing but one thing I know for sure – no matter what, NOTHING is worth risking the way I feel when I make good food choices!
Grateful!
