Age: 51
Location: Byron Bay, Australia
Reboot: 40 days
How did you learn about Reboot with Joe?
In 2011, I was doing a 10 day water fast to kick my Hashimoto’s (Auto Immune disease). The health practitioner in the institute had a copy of Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead and gave it to me to watch. I lost 12 kilos/26 lbs. in the 10 days and fixed my Hashimoto’s disease. I didn’t manage to change my eating patterns however and in a year’s time the weight was back.
What inspired you to do a Reboot?
I felt I needed to do something sustainable to lose the excess weight and I remember the FSND movie. And decided to first go hard with the Master Cleanse and then added 40 days of Reboot on top.
How did the experience go for you?
FANTASTIC. After 20 days of drinking maple syrup/cayenne pepper/lemon juice / water it is really paradise to live on juices. The recipes on the site are awesome and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I will do 10 days per quarter and will keep on juicing (two in the morning) for sure.
How much weight did you lose (even if that wasn’t your goal!)?
I lost 22 kilos/48 lbs. in total and according to my wife I became another person :-). I took some years off as well, I think. And my tennis opponents don’t like the effect it has on my game… Everything works better. I feel reborn.
Did you have any notable health or physical improvements?
For sure. No more snoring, no more problems walking up a hill or getting out of bed in the morning. I feel lighter, more energized. I play tennis, I run, I do yoga…
What was the toughest part about the Reboot experience?
Cleaning the juicer. Seriously, there was no hard part. The most difficult one was the realization I had to do it. I watched FSND in September 2011 and it took me two years almost to say, “Ok, I’ll do it.”
What habits have you maintained and kept a part of your everyday life?
Juices in the am, a salad with fish for lunch and soup for dinner — less meat, no sugars, no wheat, no dairy.
What is your lasting impression of the Reboot experience?
The main lesson I learned is that the body is intelligent enough to heal itself, if helped. By totally cutting out all crap (excuse my French) and focusing on fruit and veggies (micronutrients) the body can heal itself.
